After a long and eventful weekend of doing research into the White Rabbit’s case, it was finally Monday morning.
Jennifer Walters slowly slipped on her pinstriped blazer over her light purple blouse. She looked at herself in the mirror and studied her appearance. Her hair had been combed out and pulled back into a neat ponytail and her makeup was minimal and professional. She reached down and smoothed out her pinstriped pants to make sure she looked as perfect as possible.
Glancing back up at her reflection in the mirror, she gave herself a good look. Her green eyes stared out with a searing, manic intensity. She had noticed this change ever since her meeting with the delightful little Alice, and no matter what she did, the heroine known throughout the world as the She-Hulk couldn’t help but embrace the strange thoughts running through her head.
Somehow Jennifer knew that her mind had been opened in ways she had yet to fully understand. And it had all resulted from her meeting with the ever so delightful Alice!
Jenn reached down with trembling hands and grabbed a pair of small diamond earrings and fixed them to her ears. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself. Grabbing her briefcase, She-Hulk turned and exited her room. She took a moment to look around her apartment and exhaled a happy sigh when she saw that everything was just perfect. It sent a confident thrill up and down her spine.
With a smile, Jenn turned sharply on her expensive pumps and exited her apartment.
She-Hulk recalled with fond memories her weekend of doing important research into the poor White Rabbit’s case. Whatever foolish court-appointed attorney that they had sidled the poor dear with had done an awful job, and the green-skinned heroine had a good mind to report him to the American Bar Association for criminal negligence. That, or she could just find him and simply punch off his head and be done with it.
This was clearly a case of criminal insanity and the White Rabbit should have been placed in the care of a mental health facility right from the start. Now it would be so much more difficult to get a transfer order after the fact. The She-Hulk gritted her teeth and felt a crazed rage build up inside her and she wished that she had a knife or a meat cleaver to chop away at something. Her sharp little friends had helped her concentration so much this past weekend and that was how her apartment had been made so perfect. The metronome that she had been so generously gifted to her by that darling little Alice had been playing nonstop for the past few days. She closed her eyes and recalled its initial sound from her time with the cute little blonde in the restaurant.
Tock. Tock. Tock.
It was only when Alice had explained to her that she was not Jennifer Walters or the She-Hulk. Not really. Not anymore. She was, in fact, the Queen of Hearts’s Justice in Wonderland. Her majesty’s royal executioner. After accepting her new identity fully did she begin to hear another noise coming from the incessant metronome.
Chop. Chop. Chop.
And chop she did. Her apartment had so neat and tidy when she had returned home after her meeting. Jennifer really had no choice but to improve it, she reasoned. A large, toothy grin flashed across her face at the thought of nearly hacking the place to pieces. Nearly every surface had been carved out thanks to the mighty heroine’s chopping. She had used meat cleavers, knifes and any other utensil she could find with a sharp edge. Her expensive desk inside her office had been the first victim of her new erratic behavior, and it most certainly was not the last. She kept hearing a far-off cry of ‘Off With Their Heads’ by a feminine voice and she knew that it was her beloved Queen of Hearts! If only she could find her cherished monarch. By the time she was finished, all furniture inside her home had been destroyed and knives had been stuck into the walls.
As She-Hulk walked to her car in the underground parking structure beneath her expensive apartment, she tittered out an uncontrollable laugh at how all of that chopping had helped her research her case. She thought once more how utterly perfect her apartment had become.
Now, if only she could become just as perfect.
She remembered what Alice had said. That everyone had to play their parts in bringing about Wonderland. If she helped make Wonderland a reality, she just knew she could finally be with her Queen of Hearts, sweet little Alice and especially the Mad Hatter!
Slipping into her car, the jade giantess peeled out of her parking spot and out onto the busy New York street. She narrowly missed hitting a city bus, but it barely registered with her. All that mattered now to the warped lawyer was securing the White Rabbit’s transfer to a mental health facility. One with minimal security.
“The easier to break her out, my dear!” She-Hulk murmured to herself and she looked at her reflection in the rearview mirror and saw her green eyes sparkle with clear madness. She loved it!
