((Takes place in a fusion between the games universe and the post-reboot comics universe, however because I like them pre-reboot characters will show up.))

 

"You're too slow!" Sonic teased, dashing through the lab with the stolen device in hand.

 

"And you're too obnoxious!" Eggman growled, firing rapidly from his Eggmobile's guns. "Give that device back!  You don't even know what it does!" 

 

"And you do?" Sonic said, sliding underneath a narrow gap, Eggman flying over it. 

 

"I would if you'd let me study the thing!" Eggman roared, his mustache bristling.

 

"Yeah, no," Sonic said.  "You with unknown technology makes me nervous.  I'd rather steal it and make sure you don't get it!"

 

"RRRRGGGH!!!" Eggman snarled, firing every weapon he had.  "GET BACK HERE!!" 

 

Sonic eeped, the gunfire suddenly getting too intense for him to quip through.  Focusing on dodging, he made his way through the base, crashing through a window and dashing off at top speed, leaving a sonic boom in his wake.

 

"I'LL GET YOU FOR THIS HEDGEHoh, what's the point, he can't hear me by now," Eggman muttered.  "Orbot, Cubot, I'm going to my room to sulk.  Don't disturb me."  

 

"Yes sir," Orbot said.  "But what if one of the Egg Bosses requests fresh supplies or something like that?" 

 

"If it's just extra robots or supplies, grant it.  If it's anything else, leave me alone," Eggman said.  "I'm in a terrible mood and need some me time.  If they INTERRUPT it, tell them I've given you authorization to activate their failsafe."  

 

Orbot chuckled.  The 'failsafe' was a device in the cybernetics of each Eggman soldier that would leave them paralyzed, locked in a tight, upright position that could be easily packed away and stored for years at a time.  Even the most psychotic of the Egg Boss, Akhlut the Orca, had been tamed upon seeing it demonstrated.  

"Yes sir," Orbot said.

 

Eggman grumbled, heading back into the base. 

 

Sonic, meanwhile, activated his ear-mounted comm-link after getting a few hundred miles away from the base.  "Got the device, Sally!" he said.  

 

"Terrific!" Sally said.  "Any idea what it is?" 

 

Sonic shook his head, looking at it.  "Dunno," he said.  "Looks kinda like a cell phone."  The small, rectangular device did indeed look like a phone.  "Eggman apparently couldn't figure out how to work it." 

 

Sally hmmed thoughtfully.  "Stay there, Sonic," Sally said.  "Sky Patrol should be there shortly." 

 

Sonic nodded.  "You got it," he said, sitting down to relax on a nearby boulder.  He stared at the device, wondering if he could get it working himself...
