Tabitha Stockton, was having a very unusual start to her day. She was feeling a little chilly and noticed that her blankets had fallen off of her, still half asleep she tried to reach to her husband's side of the bed to pull the blanket back over herself only for her hand to flail through the open air. The sensation was so out of place that it jolted her out of her daze to see that she was floating in the air above her bed. Shocked Tabitha felt a strong desire to get down and just like that she was falling down onto the bed. She let out a little cry at the sudden change in elevation which including the bounce she made on her mattress managed to wake up her husband Kevin.

"What's going on?" The man of the house grumbled into his pillow.

Tabitha didn't know what to say, waking up flying was kind of worrying, it was the first time it had ever happened to her, finally she answered, "Kevin, I was flying."

Kevin responded, "Oh that's a nice dream, maybe you can get us a nice breakfast."

Tabitha glanced at her husband and decided that now was too early to discuss this, "You're right, just give me a couple minutes and I'll make some breakfast for you and the kids. They should be heading to school so we can have a little time together before you have to head off to work."

Tabitha got out of bed and put on some jeans and an old ratty t-shirt before heading to the bathroom and barely recognized herself in the mirror. Usually to look like this she needed almost half an hour in front of the make-up table, taking care of those little imperfections in the skin, but instead it all looked perfect.  Finding the change remarkable, Tabitha poked and prodded her face, trying to see if it was real, if something would smear but it was all natural, too good to be natural. Curious Tabitha tried to imagine herself feeling lighter than air and floating and just with that thought she was slowly rising up from floor. With another thought Tabitha slowly returned to the ground and expressed her true feelings, "Holy shit. What happened to me?"

Tabitha tried to remember last night, she'd been thinking about comic book heroines when she drifted off and now it looked like she'd just become one. That was bizarre, impossible, and a whole slew of other words that meant the same thing. Tabitha was just an ordinary house wife, with a loving husband and two kids, a boy named Oliver, and a girl named Samantha. She hadn't gone anywhere strange for months, there was no experimental drugs she was taking, she hadn't been bitten by a radioactive bird, or anything else in all the stories and yet here she was able to float in her bathroom. Had someone done this to her while she was sleeping? But that still begged the question why her. Superpowered people were a fantasy, entertainment, not real and yet here she was able to fly at a thought.

Tabitha made her way downstairs and saw that Oliver was already up and sitting at the table, looking like he was working on homework before he was supposed to head to the sixth grade. Tabitha gave him a look and the little brat started squirming in his seat before noticing his mom was up early and giving him the evil eye.

"Didn't I ask you if you'd finished your homework last night?" Tabitha asked.

Oliver looked back down at his paper in shame, "I got done with most of it Mom, but when I woke up I remembered that there was another assignment that was due today that had been assigned a week ago. It's no big deal, I'll get this done before the bus gets here, promise."

Tabitha sighed, "I'll let it slide for now but after school we're going to have a talk about this Oliver."

Oliver groaned, "Yes Mom."

Tabitha went to stove and started preparing bacon and eggs, it wasn't often she was up early enough to feed the kids, they were fine with cold cereal usually but she was having a special day so doing this after her already strange start was a way of normalizing things.  Tabitha reached in and pulled out a stainless steel spoon and holding it in her fist pressed against the spoon's head with what she considered negligible pressure and watched as the neck bent without any resistance and the head just snapped off. Realizing that she was now strong as well, Tabitha did her best to treat all the utensils extra carefully, a fact that Samantha noticed when she arrived in the kitchen, "What's up with Mom?"

Oliver shrugged, "Not now, I got to get this finished in 30 minutes."

Tabitha cut in and faced her daughter, "Nothing is wrong with me."

Samantha, her pink backpack covered in embroidered flowers, looked at her mother, "You look really pretty today. Is it your anniversary?"

As she said this Kevin had come downstairs and for a brief moment he looked like a deer in the headlights. He glanced at the calendar, did some math, and sighed. "No, that's not for another two months."

Kevin came up to Tabitha and gave her a kiss on the cheek, "You look wonderful today, and its great that we can share a breakfast for once."

Tabitha worked hard to make sure that everyone had their lunches and that they ate dinner as a family but this really was a rare occurrence. Oliver was looking a little put out seeing the whole family while he was trying on finishing up his homework but that really was his own fault and shortly enough even else had left leaving Tabitha to herself in the house. Normally she might do some cleaning, some errands around the city, or relax for a couple hours watching a movie but today she had woken up with superpowers and she couldn't not see just what she was capable of.

First thing she did was try to do the splits, she wasn't exactly flexible before but she watched in amazement as she was able to do it like a gymnast without any sense of pain and even more amazingly she didn't feel any sort of restriction or tension from the jeans she was wearing. Tabitha looked at the fabric and where it should have been too tight, now it looked like it was skintight at the area but it wasn't giving any restriction. It really was amazing, Tabitha took the pants off and they looked like ordinary jeans but when she'd been wearing them they had not been so ordinary. She gave an experimental tug on the fabric and just like that it was torn. Tabitha was contrite at losing one of her favorite pairs of jeans but decided to go back to testing. She put on some shorts and some high heels to test her balance and found that she had no trouble in crossing the house, walking in the backyard or even in the kid's old sandbox. Going to Kevin's old wood scrap pile she picked up two by fours and was still able to snap them with ease and when she punched them with her fist they were reduced to splinters while she didn't even feel it and her hands still looked perfectly ordinary.

There was no doubt about it, Tabitha finally had to admit, she had superpowers, like out of the comic books and the movies. She loved her family and her husband though, so she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do next. Having this kind of power and doing nothing with it just didn't sit right, she had the power to help people the only question in her mind was if she dared to share that information with someone before she went out.
